Glossary
Afforestation: human intervention aimed at converting areas that have been unforested for at least 50 years into forests; afforestation can be achieved by planting, sowing and/or human action to support the establishment of natural propagation methods.
Carbon dioxide: see CO2.
Baseline: the baseline of a CDM project is a reference scenario that reasonably represents the greenhouse gas emissions that would have existed in the absence of the project activity proposed.
Biodiversity: diversity of all the living beings belonging to all the ecosystems, as well as all the ecological systems to which they belong, including diversity within species, between species and between the ecosystems themselves.
Biogas: consists of two thirds methane and one third carbon dioxide. It is an excellent fuel resulting from the decomposition of organic matter (such as the wet portion of solid urban waste) which, appropriately treated, can be used as a fuel for heat and electricity generation plants.
